Haslam Voucher Proposal Fails This Session
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Governor Bill Haslam's proposal to create a school voucher program in Tennessee has failed this session.
The measure was withdrawn from the House Finance Committee on Tuesday because it didn't have the votes.
It's the second year the Republican governor has not been able to get the legislation passed.
He pulled a more limited version last year after attempts by members of his own party and other voucher proponents to expand it.
This year, the governor did propose a slight expansion that was palatable in the Senate. However, the House version was broader and was opposed by many members.
