MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A man who reported that his car was set on fire outside a Murfreesboro motel early Monday was later arrested.
Murfreesboro Police said the owner called to report his Honda Civic was on fire outside Motel Murfreesboro on NW Broad Street around 12:15 a.m.
Witnesses said someone was seen running from the burning car. The Fire Marshal's Office said they believe the fire was intentionally set.
Police said a routine check on the owner, identified as Amilido Rodriguez, found he had warrants in La Vergne for rape and sexual battery. He was taken into custody and booked on $250,000 bond.
Police continue to investigate who set his car on fire, and why.
