NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A mechanical issue forced a flight en route to Nashville from New York to make an emergency landing Sunday evening.

Officials with American Airlines confirmed that American Eagle flight 3486 had a maintenance issue and was forced to return back to LaGuardia Airport.

The cause of the mechanical issue was not immediately available.

The plane took off from New York at 6:38 p.m. EST and had been in the air for 30 minutes when the captain elected to return to LaGuardia.

All 63 passengers and four crew members made it on the ground safely.

The flight was canceled as a result of the delay. American Airlines said the passengers will be rebooked to other flights.
