CREATED Apr 11, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Sounds hosted their home opener Friday night kicking off their final season at Greer Stadium.

The rain did not keep fans away from the first pitch with the Omaha Storm Chasers.  Houston Greer, the grandson of the stadium's namesake Herschel Greer, threw out the season's ceremonial first pitch and said he grandfather would be happy about the move to a new ballpark.

" I think he would love it!  I think -- he would absolutely love downtown now with the arena, with the Titans playing -- and with Sulphur Dell coming back, he would absolutely love it," said Greer.

Construction for the new stadium at Sulphur Dell started in January. The $65-million ballpark is set to be finished next April.

The team is asking fans to help say farewell to the stadium it has called home for 37 years by coming out to the games and using #LastCheerAtGreer on social media.

The first 2,500 fans to Friday and Saturday's games will receive magnet schedules.

Greer Stadium has been home Nashville baseball since 1978.
