TBI Arrests Murfreesboro Police Officer For Misconduct
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a Murfreesboro police officer Wednesday afternoon and charged him with Official Misconduct and Misuse of Official Information.
Officer Bryant Scott Smith is accused of compromising undercover vice and narcotic operations during the summer of 2013. The TBI said the 10-year veteran admitted to releasing the name of at least one potential confidential informant to a person with a criminal history that includes drug charges.
On Monday, Rutherford County Grand Jury returned a two-count sealed indictment against the 42-year-old, charging him with Official Misconduct and Misuse of Official Information. TBI agents arrested him this afternoon without incident at the Rutherford County Jail.
After being booked, Smith was released on a $5,000 bond.
On Friday, the Murfreesboro Police Department placed him on administrative leave without pay. Smith remains decommissioned, pending an
internal disciplinary review process.
