MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal early morning shooting outside a Murfreesboro apartment complex.
Officials with the Murfreesboro Police Department said 22-year-old Anthony Smith, of Christiana, was taken into custody just before 2 p.m. Tuesday. He has been charged with one count of first degree murder.
Smith was accused of gunning down 23-year-old Christopher Turley around 5 a.m. Tuesday outside his apartment at 810 East Clark Street.
A second person was taken to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital with minor injuries.
Officers said witnesses at a nearby apartment complex reported hearing one shot and a car speeding away before police arrived at the scene.
The shooting scene was only blocks away from Middle Tennessee State University's campus.
Detective James Abbott and a team of officers tracked Smith and arrested him without incident.
Smith has been booked on $500,000 bond. A court date has been set for April 24.
