Clarksville Man Arrested During Investigation Into Missing Son
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville man was arrested during an investigation stemming from the disappearance of his 9-year-old son on Saturday morning.
Paul N. Rutherford, age 36, was initially arrested on several traffic charges along with vandalism after authorities said he attempted to kick out the window of the arresting deputy's patrol car.
An arrest warrant said Rutherford told the deputy that "he would go kill everyone in his family and then kill himself" after he got out of jail.
He was later charged with child abuse and neglect or endangerment.
Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the boy told them he ran away because his father told him he was going to kill him and then himself. The child told authorities Rutherford hit him in the head and chin.
Rutherford will be prohibited from having contact with his son when he is released from jail. His bond was set at $107,000.
