NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A lightning strike may be to blame for an overnight house fire in the Oak Hill area.
The woman who lives in the home on Sewanee Road said she smelled smoke just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday. She went outside and saw flames coming from the roof of her home.
Firefighters responded and quickly worked to extinguish the fire. They were able to contain the damage to the back of the house, but about 50 percent of the roof was damaged.
Crews tarped off the roof to keep water out of the house.
Marks showed lightning may have struck a nearby tree, and fire officials will now work to determine if that's what sparked the fire at the home.
