Rutherford Co. School Bus Driver Charged With DUI After Crash
SMYRNA, Tenn. – A bus driver for Rutherford County Schools has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence in connection with a hit-and-run collision involving his own vehicle.
Officials with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said 53-year-old Jeffrey Layne was arrested Friday after an alleged hit-and-run collision in Murfreesboro.
Details of the crash were not immediately known.
A statement released by Rutherford County Schools indicated he drove a bus from Stewartsboro Elementary in Smyrna.
The district said they were informed by the Murfreesboro Police Department that Layne was being investigated in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier in the afternoon.
Layne, who was in the process of completing his afternoon route, was taken into custody when he arrived back at the school. He was later charged with DUI.
The school district said he was cleared to begin driving in February of 2013 and does not have any other incidents on his record.
