NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was charged with multiple offenses after police said he was drunk when he struck a car and kept driving.
An affidavit said officers found 21-year-old Eric Brooks passed out behind the wheel of a car with its engine still running in a driveway along Doak Avenue on Monday night.
Officers had been called to the area by a driver who said a Pontiac Grand Prix had struck him at the intersection of S. Hamilton and Doak Avenues and then fled the scene.
Police said Brooks smelled strongly of alcohol and was unable to get out of his car without help. Brooks allegedly apologized to the officers for being drunk and told them he did not realize he had struck another car.
Police found a nearly empty bottle of whiskey in the car that Brooks allegedly said he had bought on his way home from work.
His car had suffered major damage to the passenger side, and was missing the front passenger tire.
Brooks was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to give information/render aid. His bond was set at $14,000.
