Man Charged With First Degree Murder In Infant's Death
COLUMBIA, Tenn. – A Maury County man who was arrested for allegedly abusing his girlfriend's 8-month-old daughter has now been charged in the infant's death.
Officials with the Columbia Police Department said the charges against 25-year-old Michael Bonee have been upgraded to murder after Sandra Cates succumbed to her injuries.
Bonee was arrested on Wednesday and charged with Aggravated Child Abuse after police responded to reports of an unconscious infant at a home on Theta Pike in Columbia the night before. He apparently lived in the home with Sandra and her mother.
Cates was rushed to Maury Regional Medical Center and later taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was treated for a severe head injury.
Detectives confirmed Saturday that Cates died as a result of her injuries.
According to police, Bonee was previously arrested in 2011 for Misdemeanor Child Abuse after he caused injury to his 7-year-old son. He was sentenced to an 11-month, 29-day probation period.
Bone is currently being held in the Maury County Jail without bond.
