Columbia Family Makes Funeral Arrangements For 8-Month-Old

CREATED Mar 21, 2014

MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. - The family of an eight-month-old in Columbia is making funeral arrangements and now the mother's boyfriend is facing even more severe charges.

"Next thing I know, they brought the baby out, put it in the ambulance and took off," neighbor Richard Burgess said.

Tuesday evening he had to see what was going on when first responders arrived at his neighbor's house.

"It was quick. They wasn't here two or three minutes. It was just that quick," he said.

According to the warrant, the Miranda Collins' boyfriend 25 year old Michael Bonee dropped the 8-month-old Sandra Cates on her head. Bonee also said that he had been drinking and that he had smoked crack cocaine earlier in the day.

For now, Bonee is facing aggravated child abuse and neglect charges, although more are expected. This is not the first time.

"In July 2011 Columbia Police Department arrested Mr. Bonee for misdemeanor child abuse," Columbia Police Lt. Joey Gideon explained.

In that case, he was convicted of injuring his then 7-year-old son with a belt. Bonnee received probation.

"He seemed like a nice fellow. I talked to him a couple of times," Burgess said. "I couldn't believe it."

Now a community is coming together to support a family and little baby Sandra, their eight-month-old angel.

The community is helping raise money for Sandra's funeral through a GoFundMe site.

Meanwhile Bonee remains in jail in lieu of a $102,000 bond and will be back in court on March 31, 2014.
