Suspect Pretends To Buy Candy, Steals From Cash Register
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have asked for help from the public to identity the suspect who pretended to buy candy, only to reach into the cash drawer to take money during the transaction.
The suspect was seen on video surveillance entering a Walgreens at 5600 Charlotte Pike Wednesday around 8:45 a.m. He picked out some candy and took it to the checkout for payment.
When the clerk opened the cash register, police said he lunged across the counter and tried to take money. He was unable to get any cash, but struck the clerk during a struggle. He left the store empty handed.
The same suspect apparently went into the World Market at 6728 Charlotte Pike about 15 minutes later and tried the same thing. He again took candy to the register and tried to take money when it was opened.
After a struggle with the cashier, the suspect was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect from the surveillance image or has information about the incidents should contact Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME (615-742-7463).
