Fleischmann Picks Up Endorsement Of Former Rival
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - The second-place finisher in the last Republican primary contest in Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District has endorsed incumbent Rep. Chuck Fleischmann.
Scottie Mayfield, the former president of Mayfield Dairy Farms, was also named Monday as honorary chairman of Fleischmann's bid for a third term.
Mayfield and Weston Wamp, the son of former Rep. Zach Wamp, challenged Fleischmann in the GOP primary in 2012.
Fleischman, a Chattanooga attorney, won 39 percent of the vote, compared with 31 percent for Mayfield and 29 percent for Wamp.
Wamp is challenging Fleischmann again this year, calling him a "do-nothing congressman."
The 3rd District encompasses all or parts of 11 counties from the southeastern corner of the state to Scott County on the Kentucky state line.
