NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon while driving on a highway north of Nashville.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said two vehicles were driving northbound on Ellington Parkway, near the on ramp of Briley Parkway, when someone fired shots into a car and sped away.
The victim, identified as 21-year-old Justin Roake, was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Roake was armed, but it was unclear if he fired any shots.
Police said they were investigating whether or not the incident was a targeted attack or an act of road rage. Investigators said they were working to identify whoever was in the second vehicle, which was possibly a dark SUV or pickup truck.
The roadway was shut down for nearly three hours while officials conducted their investigation.
According to police on the scene, another person was inside the car at the time of the shooting but escaped unharmed.
