Police Apprehend Suspect Near Brentwood Academy

CREATED Mar 13, 2014

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – A suspect wanted in connection with several warrants in Williamson County was apprehended Thursday near the campus of Brentwood Academy.

Officials with the Brentwood Police Department said officers were called to the scene of a traffic stop near the intersection of Maryland Way and Granny White Pike around 10:20 a.m. to assist in the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with several charges.

The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Matthew Stovall, of Franklin. Stovall was wanted for a parole violation and failing to appear in court.

Police said Stovall fled the scene on foot and ran towards the campus of Brentwood Academy, also located on Granny White Pike. As a precaution, the school was temporarily placed on lockdown while authorities searched for the suspect.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody just before 11:30 a.m. inside a barn near the school's campus.

Stovall now faces additional charges of resisting arrest, fleeing to avoid arrest and driving with a revoked license. He is being held without bond in the Williamson County Jail.

A court date has been set for 1 p.m. on March 27.
