Metro Students Form First City-Wide Drum Line
by Todd Walker
NASHVILLE, Tenn - There is no "I" in team, but over the last few months a couple dozen Metro Nashville Public School District music students proved there are a few snare drums.
Since January, percussionists from across the metro put aside rivalries to work together, forming the first ever Metro drum line.
Metro Indoor Percussion is a competition drum line - and having only been around for a couple months, the students and director said they have certainly come a long way.
Students from each school had different styles and techniques that had to blend together.
"It was difficult at first to be honest," director Jason Walsh said. "But if you see them now you would not be able to tell which school the kid came from, which is great."
On Wednesday, the group performed for Mayor Karl Dean, and music industry professionals as a part of Metro School's Music Makes Us program.
