Man Charged With Raping Unconscious Woman
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was charged with rape after police said he assaulted a woman who was unconscious in a vacant parking lot just outside of downtown Nashville.
Police said officers were called to the area of 7th Avenue South and Division Street after reports of a man raping an unconscious female on Tuesday afternoon.
When they arrived, the witnesses described the man and he was found walking nearby on 8th Avenue South.
Officers then found the unconscious victim lying in a field nearby, and said she was extremely intoxicated.
The 33-year-old victim told police she had been raped, and she was taken to the hospital.
The man, identified as 56-year-old Cleveland Jones, was taken into custody. During an interview, he admitted to having sexual contact with the victim while she was very drunk.
It is believed he and the woman had been drinking together during the day Tuesday.
Police said the woman was so intoxicated that she would not have been able to consent to sex.
Jones was charged with rape of a helpless individual. His bond was set at $75,000.
A court date was set for Monday.
