Ex-Sheriff Gets 6 Years In Jail, Seeking New Trial
JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - A one-time Tennessee sheriff has been sentenced to six years in jail and three years of probation after being convicted of attempted involuntary manslaughter.
Judge Nathan Pride on Wednesday turned away a request by the attorney for former Henderson County Sheriff Ricky Lunsford to set aside the guilty verdict on a second charge of employing a weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony before handing down the sentence.
The Jackson Sun reported that Lunsford will get a hearing on his request for a new trial on May 6.
A jury found Lunsford guilty in December of attempted involuntary manslaughter and the weapons charge. Police said Lunsford fired several shots in the parking lot of a bar in April 2013 during a dispute.
