Metro Nashville Public Schools Closed Wednesday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Nashville Public Schools announced all schools will be closed Wednesday due to lingering road issues from ice.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Public Schools said Tuesday evening that all schools would be closed on March 5. They said areas in Joelton, Goodlettsville, Bellevue and Hermitage were still experiencing icing problems.
Tuesday was the last official snow day for students in MNPS. It was not immediately known when students will have to make-up the extra snow day.
Davidson County was experiencing icy road conditions and 1 to 1.5 inches of snow accumulation in some areas Monday morning. Roads and especially overpasses became extremely hazardous resulting in multiple motor vehicle accidents.
"When the situation is like this we want to make sure that we waver on caution side and take care of our citizens," said William Swann, with the Office of Emergency Management. "If drivers don't have to be out, then quite frankly we prefer that they're not."
As a precaution, officials elected to close schools at least one more day.
Other schools across the north and northwestern parts of Middle Tennessee and in southern Kentucky also announced they would be closed Wednesday.
