Motorcyclist Killed In Fiery Crash On I-24E In Rutherford Co.
MURFRESSBORO, Tenn. – A motorcyclist was killed Monday night in a fiery crash on Interstate 24 eastbound in Rutherford County.
The crash was reported around 8:45 p.m. at exit 79 in Murfreesboro.
Witnesses told the Tennessee Highway Patrol that the motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Robert Sullivan of Murfreesboro, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan from behind.
The motorcycle caught fire, and Sullivan was thrown to the ground. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The driver of the van, 42-year-old Berma Ussery of Tullahoma, was injured. Three children in the van, ages 2, 6, and 9, were not hurt.
The interstate was shut down for several hours while investigators remained on scene.
