1 Killed, 6 Injured In Head-On Crash In Murfreesboro
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – A man was killed and six others were injured in a head-on crash in Rutherford County on Monday.
The two-car collision happened just before noon in the 7200 block of Old Nashville Highway near Amanda Way in Murfreesboro.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said 53-year-old Roland King, of Murfreesboro, died at the scene. Witnesses told investigators that King, who was driving a Toyota Celica, was trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone when he hit a Chevrolet Trailblazer head-on. The Trailblazer, carrying six people, flipped.
Witnesses rushed in to help.
"I was just concerned for everybody, but there wasn't too much I could do for him," said Ron Andreano. "He was pretty much pinned in the vehicle."
The THP said King had been drinking.
The driver of the Trailblazer, 18-year-old Maria Tarpley, along with passengers 39-year-old Taylor Montoya, 64-year-old Deborah Debenedetto, 71-year-old Ruth Griggs, 66-year-old Gloria Johnson, 63-year-old Debra Osterheld were all injured and taken to area hospitals.
