Cold Winter Causing Roofing Problems In The Mid-State

Cold Winter Causing Roofing Problems In The Mid-State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Work for some mid-state experts, according to Daniel Kennedy with Don Kennedy Roofing, has literally shot through the roof. Kennedy said the extreme change in weather from hot to cold is hitting commercial businesses and homeowners hard.

"In the winter time we usually average about anywhere from 10 to 15 calls a day, but right now we're averaging around 25 to 30 calls a day," he said. "What's happening is moisture is getting into the roof and when it does the expansion and contraction causes a roof to break apart at times."

The roof on one company they're working on was covered with small holes and weather-related cracks that led to leaks.

"One thing you'll see if you don't get the problem fixed immediately is that the problem will grow," said Kennedy.

That's why it isn't a simple roof repair, it's a roof replacement. Kennedy said it could've been avoided.

"The best thing to do is maintain your roof system and when you do that you catch the problems from the get go," he said.

Often times however the roof isn't a priority, but Kennedy said if you want to avoid this from happening to you, it has to be. Kennedy also said you should look into a roofing maintenance plan with a quality contractor.

Homeowners should have their roof inspected every other year while commercial business owners need to have a contractor out twice a year.
