Man Takes Off Running Following Traffic Stop; Officer Injured
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – A routine traffic stop ended with a Goodlettsville officer injured and a man in jail.
An affidavit said the officer pulled over a vehicle in the parking lot Motel 6 on Cartwright Street in Goodlettsville. The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Adam Potter, got out of his car and took off running.
The officer gave chase, and Potter allegedly pulled out a black object and pointed it at the officer. The officer dove out of the way, thinking it was a gun, and injured his arm. The black object turned out to be pepper spray.
Officers found Potter hiding under a truck, and took him into custody after a brief struggle.
The injured officer was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a possible broke arm.
Potter told police he didn't think it was an actual police officer, and thought he was being robbed.
Potter was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault of an officer, and misdemeanor evading arrest. His bond was set at $39,000.
