Widow Offers Forgiveness To Man Responsible For Husband's Death

SPRING HILL, Tenn. - A widow has offered forgiveness to the man accused of killing her husband in a drunk driving collision by pleading with a judge in order to keep him out of jail.
Nearly one year has passed since Amber Kiley lost her husband.
"As a wife you miss affirmation; you miss somebody saying it's going to be ok," said Kiley.
It's been almost one year, since Brian E. Kiley, a well-known Nashville comedian was killed by a drunk driver after performing at a show in North Carolina.
"The day that Brian passed away, I made some big decisions on that day and one of the big decisions was that I didn't want to be bitter, and I didn't want to be someone caught in this tragedy for the rest of their lives," said Kiley.
Raul Herrera was behind the wheel on February 17, 2013. He admitted he had too much to drink when he got behind the wheel after an argument with his wife.
"I wish every day that I could go back in time, and I wish I could get that day back," said Herrera.
It's a day he can't get back, but instead one he'll re-live over and over again.
"I never thought that I had a problem, and I never saw myself as being a person who would put himself in this situation, and now I'm going to have to live with that for the rest of my life," said Herrera.
Herrera was facing several years behind bars, but in a surprising turn of events, Herrera received a gift of a second chance, as Amber Kiley asked a judge for leniency for Herrera.
"It's easy to demonize and get angry and live in the moment, but when you look at that person as a human and you say this was an awful mistake," said Kiley.
It's a debt Herrera can't erase, but one this husband and father hopes to try and repay.
"But to see how she handled this situation, to see everything that she went through, and all the pain and ignorance I must have put her through in my ignorance, has really raised the bar in my eyes of how good a person can be, and I am forever indebted to her," said Herrera.
