Conviction In Case Of Body Found In Memphis Motel

CREATED Feb 10, 2014

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A jury has convicted a man for strangling his girlfriend and hiding her body under a Memphis motel bed, where it remained undiscovered for about six weeks.

Lakeith Moody was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison on Sunday in the 2010 death of 28-year-old Sony Millbrook.

Shelby County prosecutors say Millbrook was reported missing in on Jan. 27, 2010. She was last seen alive in a room at the Budget Lodge in Memphis.

Prosecutors said Moody strangled Millbrook with a cord and hid her body under a mattress and box spring.

The room had been cleaned numerous times by motel staff and rented out at least five times before police found her body March 15, 2010, after reports of a bad odor.

Moody was arrested weeks later.
