3 Displaced After Fire Destroys Sumner County Home
SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. – A Sumner County family was left without a home after it was destroyed by fire overnight.
The fire initially broke out just after midnight at the home on Highway 52 East in Portland, and rekindled shortly before 4:45 a.m. Friday.
Firefighters said three people inside the home were able to make it out without serious injuries. One woman was hurt, but refused medical attention.
Due to the size of the fire and its location, Sumner County firefighters got some help from Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The American Red Cross was called out to assist the family. They said they were also working with the Gallatin Humane Association to help with 15 dogs and cats that also lived inside the home.
