Fake Cops In Yellow Camaro Strike Again in Maury County
by Janet Kim
MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. - A police impersonator has robbed two people since Monday on Highway 43 in Maury County. The latest victim was robbed Wednesday morning. Investigators said the suspects were riding around in a yellow Camaro and pulling people over.
The most recent victim didn't want to reveal his identity, but he wanted to share his account of what happened so that it doesn't happen to anyone else.
"I see this guy, and he has a gun pointed at me, he told me he's undercover cop," he said.
The robbers made off with $120 in the most recent case, and fortunately the victim was not harmed. This is the second report of a police imposter robbing a driver in Maury County in a matter of days, using a blue light on the dash to pull people over.
The Sheriff's Department has now increased patrols in the area of Highway 43 and Old Lawrenceburg Highway, and detectives are now making a public plea for leads and for drivers to beware.
"Certainly when there is a gun involved, the lethality of it goes up," said Maury County Sheriff's Detective Sergeant Ray McCluggage. "Thankfully it wasn't used, but it certainly doesn't mean it couldn't happen next time, so we're going to get these guys off the road."
The suspects are believed to be in a later model yellow Camaro. Investigators believe there are two men involved in both cases.
Though it's unclear if they are locals, investigators said it's quite possible. They appear to be familiar with this area.
