Tina Turner Donates For Old Tennessee School Renovation

CREATED Jan 31, 2014

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Delta Heritage Center said singer Tina Turner is making donations as part of the effort to restore her old grade school in West Tennessee.

The center said Turner is making an undisclosed monetary donation toward the restoration of Flagg Grove School, where she attended as a child.

Turner, who was born in Nutbush, will be providing memorabilia, display cases, gold record awards and stage costumes that will be part of an interpretive exhibit at the school.

The one-room school was moved from Nutbush in 2012 and is now located at the center in Brownsville. The school closed in the 1960s and was used as a barn before it was moved.

In a statement, Turner thanked the community for its participation and involvement in the restoration.
