Stellar Awards Return to Nashville
By Marcus Washington
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 29th Stellar Awards is biggest night in Gospel Music and it's taking over Music City again in 2014.
It's one of the biggest weekends in Gospel Music and it happens right here in Music City
"Oh Nashville, I was just telling the driver today this is a little LA," said gospel legend Dorinda Clark- Cole.
We often see what's presented in front of the camera at the Stellar Awards and the BMI Trailblazers Luncheon.
"I'm so happy, excited and grateful to be here, to be standing here on this red carpet, sharing this moment with you," said gospel singer Tasha Page-Lockhart.
Behind the scenes at Municipal Auditorium, you can see the production is more than putting up a stage, lights and turning on a microphone. Before the big night, it's a must that you get ready for the camera and lights, even if you are not an artist.
"You got to look good man. It's all about the glam. You got to fit the part," said Shane Lawrence from California.
For the past five years Queen Campbell has opened what she calls a Glam Lounge in the host hotel.
"The concept is to give the celebrity experience to the attendees, the people who come from all over the country, all over the world," said Campbell.
She says this weekend is great for business because when you look good, you feel good.
Speaking of business, the Stellar Awards is big for Nashville because attendees bring in millions of dollars to our local economy.
"About $309 a night and we're staying three nights, dinners I think a good $100 or so," said Lawrence about his spending.
Tonje Makosir from Oslo, Norway said, "[I want] to eat some of the southern food that you have here, that we are not so familiar with in Norway. We also want to do some shopping at one of the malls here."
It's a big time for everyone involved and local business owners say they welcome it all.
"I can say that I'm happy with the response. They see my product they love my product," said Brooklyn Tankard.
The 29th Annual Stellar Awards show will air on the UP network Saturday night at 7:00.
