Detention Hearing For National Guard Recruiter Accused In Shootings

CREATED Jan 17, 2014

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee National Guard recruiter is expected to appear in court for a hearing to determine if he can be released pending trial on charges he tried to kill four of his superiors.

Amos Patton has a detention hearing scheduled Friday afternoon in federal court in Memphis.

Prosecutors said the 42-year-old Patton opened fire inside the armory in Millington on October 24 after he was told he would be relieved of duty and dismissed from active service for alleged misconduct.

Authorities said three guard members suffered minor injuries when they were shot in the leg area.

An indictment said Patton was chased down by a fellow guard member after fleeing the armory.

Trial has been set for February 10. Patton has pleaded not guilty.
