CREATED Jan 17, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ice on the roadways caused some issues for drivers on Friday morning. Many schools in Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky either closed or delayed due to the treacherous roadways.

In Tennessee, some schools announced delays and later decided to close. In Southern Kentucky, many schools were closed. See the full list of closings here: http://on.nc5.co/19aLDia.

Light rain fell overnight, creating slick spots on the roadways due to freezing temperatures. Drivers were advised to leave early and slow down as they make their way into their destinations.

Mt. Juliet Police tweeted that officers reported black ice on many roadways within the area.

Kentucky State Police reported several crashes along Interstate 24 between the 21 and 44 mile markers, including a semi-truck that struck a guardrail and blocked one lane at mile marker 30 near the Tennessee River Bridge on the eastbound side.
