FAIRVIEW, Tenn. – A preliminary hearing was held for the woman accused of killing a man inside a home in Fairview.

Forty-three-year-old Kimberly Dawn Matthews appeared in a Williamson County court room for the first time Wednesday. She has been charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of 62-year-old James Kevin Ferguson.

He was shot inside his home on January 9.

Inside the courtroom, Detective Steve Schaver with the Fairview Police Department shed light on the possible motivation for the alleged shooting.

"She told me that the victim had asked her to do something and she became embarrassed and could not do it and went to retrieve the pistol," said Schaver.

James Richards, a neighbor, also testified during the hearing. He said he was at the home the night Ferguson was shot. He revealed the three had been smoking marijuana and drinking tequila in the moments leading up to the shooting.

Richards said he only remembered hearing one gunshot.

Matthews' bond was set at $750,000. The case has been sent to the grand jury for review.
