Burglar Slams Stolen Car Into Store, Steals Cigarettes
by Chris Conte
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro Police are searching for the driver of a stolen car who used the vehicle as a battering ram to break into a West Nashville convenience store on Sunday morning only to steal a few cartons of cigarettes.
"It's stupid, just for cigarettes? I don't know. I don't know these days," said Falah Almutory, who manages the Robertson Avenue Market.
The store's security camera footage showed the old Ford sedan backing into the front door at a high rate of speed in reverse. Then, a masked man in a hooded sweatshirt climbed out the driver side window and made his way toward a stack of Marlboro Lights, only after tripping once along the way.
"That's cement, he broke both side of cement broke both sides in half," Almutory said looking at the damage.
The store wasn't open when the suspect broke in around 7:13 a.m. If it had been an hour later, Falah said someone could've been seriously injured or killed.
"It just shocked me," he added.
No arrests have been made in the case.
