Officer Injured When Cruiser Struck While Helping Stranded Motorist
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville Police officer was taken to the hospital after his cruiser was struck while assisting a driver with a broken down vehicle on Friday morning.
Around 7:10 a.m., Clarksville Police said the officer was helping the driver of a Toyota Corolla which was broken down in the middle turn lane on Fort Campbell Boulevard near Gate 1.
The officer had his emergency blue lights activated and was facing the vehicle's front end.
As he and the driver waited inside their vehicles for a wrecker, a Ford Ranger pickup truck heading northbound swerved toward the right lanes, and off the road. When the pickup came back on the road, it swerved toward the left lanes, and collided with the Corolla. The Corolla then struck the officer's cruiser.
The driver of the Corolla was taken ambulance to Gateway Medical Center. The officer was later taken by his supervisor to Gateway after complaining of knee pain.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was cited for reasonable care.
No identities were released.
