Security Guard Takes Shoplifting Suspect Into Custody
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A security guard who chased shoplifting suspects was able to take one of them into custody following a crash overnight.
Just before 1 a.m. Friday, Metro Police said the security guard tried to stop two men as they exited the Walmart on Hamilton Church Pike with a cart full of merchandise. The guard chased the two men as they ran into the parking lot.
One of the men got into a silver Pontiac, and began backing up with the security guard wedged between the car and the open door. The security guard deployed a Taser at the driver, but the driver continued backing up and knocked the security guard to the ground before fleeing the scene.
The guard then tried to follow the car to obtain a license plate number, but was unable to catch up with it.
When he got to the intersection of Bell Road and Zelida Avenue he noticed the car had crashed. The security guard broke out the driver's door window, removed the driver from the car, and placed him in custody.
Police responded, and took the man into custody for aggravated assault. His name was not immediately released.
The other man fled on foot outside the Walmart. A description was unknown.
