NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A convicted burglar has been arrested and charged after a concerned citizen reported him to police.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 55-year-old Alexander Leslie Baxter was arrested and charged with Aggravated Burglary and Attempted Vehicle Theft.

Police said a witness saw Baxter climb a fence and enter a home located on Portland Avenue in Nashville on Wednesday.

As the suspect was leaving the house, a police helicopter was on the scene and ground units were approaching. Police said Baxter had also planned to steal the home owner's car with keys found inside the home but abandoned the plot when he saw police officers approaching the house.

Baxter later fled the scene on foot. He was later found hiding in the basement of a home located on Fairfax Avenue.

According to officials, Baxter has been arrested on multiple counts of Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Auto Burglary, Vandalism and Assault. In November, he was arrested on charges of Domestic Assault.

The previous charge was still pending at the time of his arrest.
