Longtime State Sen. Douglas Henry Hospitalized
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Longtime Democratic state Senator Douglas Henry of Nashville has been hospitalized for dehydration, but is expected to be discharged before next week's start of the legislative session.
Henry checked into a Nashville emergency room on Monday. Aides said he was expected to be released Thursday.
According to legislative librarian Eddie Weeks, Henry is the longest serving member of the General Assembly in state history.
Henry, a World War II veteran who received the Philippine Independence Medal, was the longtime chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee until Republicans took control of the upper chamber in 2007.
Before his election to the Senate in 1971, Henry served a single term in the state House starting in 1955.
