Metro Schools Go Back To Class Thursday
By Shannon Royster
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro Nashville Schools' winter break has finally come to an end.
Thursday, teachers and students will be back in class. That is, everyone except Whites Creek High School.
Whites Creek High School will be closed Thursday, Jan. 9 due to no heat throughout the building. All other Metro Schools will be open on a regular schedule.
Metro maintenance and transportation crews have been hard at work making repairs. They worked on about 250 buses out of 653. They changed out batteries and worked on coolant lines.
Also, crews received more than 200 requests to fix heating issues.
MNPS spokesman Joe Bass said some crew members worked non-stop.
"They've been out in the bitter cold well into the night fixing pipes, heaters and buses and all of Nashville owes them a debt of gratitude for trying to get our kids back in school," he said.
Metro officials are also asking parents to send their children to school with an extra jacket or sweater just in case the classrooms are a little colder than normal.
Although Metro Nashville schools will be open Thursday, more than a dozen school systems in the eastern part of the mid-state will be closed.
