Keith Urban’s July 26 Boston-area concert has already made headlines for a large number of alcohol related arrests and injuries. Now comes word that an 18-year-old Boston man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl at the show.
“The attack happened in front of a large crowd of other concertgoers on the lawn of the Xfinity Center, an outdoor amphitheater in Mansfield, Massachusetts,” CNN reports
. “The rape ended when a woman in the crowd pushed the alleged attacker off the victim and he fled, police said.”
The suspect, Sean Murphy, was arrested “a short time later” and charged with rape, police said. He entered a not guilty plea in court and was released on $10,000 bond.
"Officers conducting the investigation were assisted by patrons that had been concerned and took photos and video of the assault on their cellular phones," the Mansfield Police statement said. "Those phones are being processed to recover the digital evidence of the assault."
His lawyer tells CNN “this was a consensual act, not a sexual assault. There are no allegations of force or violence against him. This was a private act that regrettably occurred in a public place. Mr. Murphy deeply regrets this incident and I am sure the young woman does as well. The young woman was neither intoxicated nor overcome by drugs at the time. Mr. Murphy has no criminal history whatsoever."
Urban’s representative declined CNN’s request for comment.
