Parking may be a little tougher at Lambeau this year

CREATED Aug. 9, 2013

GREEN BAY - Something to think about before you head up to Lambeau for the first time this season, your normal parking routine will have to compete with extra company.  That's because there are 7,000 new seats at Lambeau.  That will mean 7,000 more fans and the cars and trucks they come in.

While there are new seats, there wasn't anywhere to put more parking spaces.  The neighborhoods are likely to absorb the extra cars.  In 2003 when the team added 11,000 seats that's what happened.  "We saw them be able to accommodate and absorb the extra people coming to the game and we suspect that will be the same case here," said Packers Spokesman Aaron Popkey.

But that may mean your normal routine changes a bit.  "Maybe it's a block or two more of parking in the neighborhoods.  Maybe some businesses to the east or west pick up a few more cars," Popkey said.

If you've got a normal routine, you may want to take just a little more time to get situated.

There are also a number of ways you can plan ahead: offers the ability to buy reserved parking.

-Green Bay Metro has four gameday lines that reach out to different parts of the city.

-Hotels offer packages that include parking and shuttles to and from the stadium.

Or you can always head up and look for a lawn.  The extra fans will likely provide a little boost to the parking economy around Lambeau.
