Packers-49ers aftermath and Washington preps

CREATED Sep. 9, 2013

So my 34-31 Packers beat the 49ers prediction was close, but not right.

Close matters little, like the NFL wins are what matters.

But the Packers loss in San Fran convinces me all the more that they could have won that game, and with Morgan Burnett and Casey Hayward, dare I say they would have won.

I for one didn't fully appreciate Burnett's ability to get things lined up in the back, and without his voice and Charles Woodson's voice in the back end, things didn't end up well in the middle of the field when Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis did their work.

A pass rush could have greatly helped matters, sure Colin Kaepernick is elusive but 1 sack put a lot of heat on the secondary as well.

Plus with a healthy Casey Hayward, the Packers have 3 great corners along with Tramon Williams and Sam Shields, greatly limiting what an opposing offense can do.

There are signs of hope Packers fans.  One game does not a season make, and the home opener should still bring optimistic thoughts against Washington.

Managing the read option doesn't seem to be as big of a problem.  Limiting explosive plays still is for this defense.
