Back to football, back to big business

CREATED Sep. 14, 2013

GREEN BAY - It's back to football and back to big business in Green Bay. On the eve of the first Packers home game of the season, bars and hotels in the Stadium District are preparing for a flood of football fans pouring in for game day.

The first home game reuqires lots of planning for local businesses. Bar owners are busy setting up tents and stocking shelves. They are preparing for 80,000 extra bodies in the area.

The Bar goes through more than 500 cases of beer and 1,000 hamburgers during any Packers home game.

They're not the only ones scrambling to get ready for the crowds. The Best Western has all of their 145 rooms booked for every home Packers game for the rest of the season. They filled their vacancy for those dates within just a day or two of the Packers schedule release back in April.

That makes this time of the year crucial for almost all businesses, giving the local economy a giant boost.

The Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau says a home game brings in nearly $9.1 million to the economy.
