Badgers prep for first real test with Sun Devils' spread offense

CREATED Sep. 12, 2013

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin's revamped defense is getting its first real test.

The No. 20 Badgers are getting ready for a fast-paced chess match in the desert with Arizona State and its spread offense.

New coach Gary Andersen switched the Badgers to a 3-4 defense this year. The results have been stellar so far, with shutouts of overmatched Massachusetts and FCS school Tennessee Tech.

Things get tougher this weekend in Tempe. The Badgers' young secondary faces by far its toughest task so far this year.

Linebacker Chris Borland says there's a lot to prove. Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda says one of the biggest challenges will be trying to keep up with the pace to send in the right substitutes, while also trying to slow down the Sun Devils.
