The desperate search for a missing 4-year-old Florida boy with autism has come to an end.
The little boy was found safe. However, during the search, a gruesome discovery was made -- four human bodies.
According to CBS News, detectives with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office found the bodies near the home of the boy's possible father. Their exact relationship is unclear.
The search for the little Ismael Tristan Santisteban and 28-year-old Adam Matos began on Thursday after sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check at the Hudson home in the Tampa Bay area. They had visited the home previously on Aug. 28 because of a domestic situation.
Bay News 9 says the mother of the child had called the police on Aug. 28 and said that Matos had put a knife to her neck. Matos was gone from the home by the time they arrived.
During the visit on Thursday, the autistic child and Matos were not home and the deputies became suspicious that something was wrong. The sheriff's deputies noticed a bad smell outside of the home and saw birds circling in the air nearby. Upon investigation, they discovered the bodies of two men and two women.
Sheriff Chris Nocco revealed on Thursday that there was a connection between the boy and four bodies, but did not identify the victims or specify their relationship to the boy or to Matos.
An Amber Alert was issued for Tristan and the sheriff pleaded for the public's help.
FOX News 4 reports that the boy and Matos were located early Friday morning in a hotel in the downtown Tampa area. Matos was placed under arrest in connection to the murders and kidnapping. Tristan was taken to local hospital to be checked out.
Matos has a criminal record. He was arrested several times between 2007 and 2010 in Pennsylvania.
Bay News 9 is also reporting that a resident of the neighborhood says that he had heard a lot of screaming coming from a home in the area during the last couple of weeks and also noticed the birds circling in the air. He now says that he wished he had called the authorities.
According to CNN, the exact relationship between the child and Matos is not known. Some family members say he is the biological father. Others say that he is someone who cared deeply for the child and helped raise him.
