Partners in Education: App Building

By Brie Groves. CREATED Apr 1, 2014

BRILLION, WI --     Earlier this year Brillion Elementary received a grant from the Ariens company for innovations in the classroom. What their doing with is not only going to further their futures, but help a local company along the way.

"I'm working on app for the Ariens company",Devin Baeten, a tech savvy 3rd grader has teamed up with the Brillion 5Th graders to help out on their new Ariens App. "It can give you the Ariens company facebook and twitter and contact information and I have a link to their website," he explains.

As a hands on way to bring technology into the classroom while encouraging teamwork and creativity, Mr. Polkinghorne's class has partnered up with Conduit Mobile to create an App for the Ariens company. It's a local business that specializes in manufacturing outdoor power equipment.
"It involves the kids working on tech skills, copy and pasting URLs, designing their backgrounds and headers, and putting in special icons," tools Polkinghorne says can go a long way.

The App will be free and can be downloaded straight from iTunes, Google Play or the Amazon App store. "A consumer when they buy a product from Ariens will be able to load this App and then be connected to the Ariens company," says Polkinghorne.

For the kids it's a fun way to learn and get involved with the community. With dreams of becoming a graphic designer, 5Th grader Korbin Leary prefers this to the traditional classroom teaching, "I love computers and  I think it's funner to work on a computer."

These kids are no stranger to technology, most have Smartphones, iPad's or iPod's. Polkinghorne explains, "I think if you have a problem with your tablet or your phone I think if you handed it to one of my kids they could take care of it in no time." After all they are the App users of our future, "How great is that to have an App for your product that was created by the students at Brillion Elementary school."

The App will be available for use on May 1st.
