United Community Connects Local Shoppers, Businesses & Non-Profits

Kimberly, WI -- The Kimberly Papermakers football team is back on the practice field taking hits. Behind the scenes, Kimberly Booster Club President Marcia Argall is always looking for new ways to raise money to fund the athletic program. 

"The Kimberly Booster Club raises funds through concessions mostly," she said.

But last year, they were approached by the United Community program.

"We were very excited to become a part of what they are doing," she said.

United Community co-founder David Meyers launched the program in January. It has now expanded from Chilton to the Fox Cities, Green Bay and Manitowoc.

"The whole reason that my partner and I got together to start this was to do something good," said Meyers.

Here's how it works. Participants register their existing credit or debit card on United Community's website. It must be a Visa or MasterCard. Next, you choose from a list of non-profits that you would like to support. Then, shop at United Community's 160 partner businesses and they'll donate a portion of your purchase to the non-profit of your choice.

"It's free, it's simple, it takes 30 seconds and you can be making a big difference," explained Meyers. 

Argall adds, "I think it's great for our community, because we can support those businesses more and in turn they support us." 

Argall calls it a win-win relationship. Area businesses profit and so does the Kimberly Booster Club.

"It helps our athletes tremendously. The funds that we raise help to support our athletes with buying them equipment, especially equipment that helps them to be safe," she explained.

The booster club is also considering improving facilities and playing fields with the money raised. 

 

United Community partners with churches, schools, homeless shelters and many other non-profits. The company also contributes 30% percent of its earnings to help feed children in need around the world.
