APPLETON -- A local golfing legend opening his golf teaching school today to wounded Wisconsin veterans.
Bob Burns hosted the event to help veterans returning from war rebuild their physical and mental strength after suffering both physical and mental injuries. An amputee and leader with the Wounded Warrior Project says, today's event is great not only for recovery, but he also hopes Burns can help him improve his swing.
"I'm right handed and I have a prosthetic on my left leg, so learning how to post-up on that leg is kind of difficult. Transitioning my weight due to the fact that I can't feel my foot can sometimes be difficult.," says BJ Ganem, a Marine wounded in Iraq.
Today's event was part of a larger, statewide effort through the Wisconsin National Guard and people and organizations like Bob Burns to help veterans adjust to civilian life when they return from war.
