Wisconsin gun range reacts to accident where instructor is shot and killed by child

The story of a 9-year-old girl accidentally killing her instructor at a gun range in Arizona is sparking outrage across the country and here in Wisconsin. The accident happened while the girl was learning to shoot a automatic machine gun.

A Wisconsin gun range is reacting to the incident. One firearms instructor says it has nothing to do with age and everything to do with instruction.

The video shows a 9-year-old being instructed to fire an Uzi sub machine gun when she looses control, shooting and killing her instructor.

Eric Grabowski, a manager at The Shooters Shop says a few simple steps would have prevented this deadly accident. He says the  instructor in the video was standing on the wrong side of the child while she was shooting.

"It is your job as instructor to make sure that area is safe and you   take your self out of the equation it has nothing to do with a 9 year old with a sub- machine gun," said Grabowski. Grabowski's heart goes out to both the child and the instructor's family.

There is no Wisconsin state law restricting how old a child must be to receive gun training. Meanwhile in Arizona authorities say no charges will be filed against the child, her parents or the gun range.
