GREEN BAY -- A Northeast Wisconsin veteran says he missed hunting and fishing the most while he was deployed overseas. Now, he's paying it forward when it comes to getting fellow vets outdoors.
Tonight's Maino Project is the story of a man who firmly believes the helping hand he was given while recovering from his wounds played a huge part in his recovery. Now, he wants to make sure fellow vets have the same opportunity.
During his 15 years in the military, Mark Meunier saw a little bit of everything and was wounded more than six times. During his recovery from those injuries, he found his favorite means of escaping the memories was on the water.
With that in mind, he got some volunteers together, teamed up with a nonprofit group called Taking Them Outdoors, and formed Outfitters 4 Patriots. Since then, local vets have been treated to catching fish and stalking game throughout Northeast Wisconsin and the U.P. But with these guides, it's neither the catch nor the kill that carries top priority. It's the camaraderie.
"It doesn't mater what happened to you even if your hurting inside or were overseas in combat and need someone to talk to. Give us a call, come hang out with us. We understand what you're going through and we are here to help," says Meunier.
